John West

John West

John West arrived in Lake Havasu in 2008 and is actively engaged in various volunteer projects relating to Nature.  John is a nature photographer, artist, storyteller and friend to many.

John incorporated deep breathing practices into his life after attending classes given by Shiv Talwar at Mohave County Library in Lake Havasu in 2019.  John participates in a weekly group breathing practice and enjoys sharing the benefits with others.

John’s background includes 36 years in the railroad industry followed by travel, four years living and working at Grand Canyon National Park, and subsequently moving to Lake Havasu City where he has been involved with Friends of Bill Williams River and Havasu National Wildlife Refuges volunteer group for 10 years.  John is known by some for his creation of the Pima Wash Rock Garden.

In John’s words:  “Meeting Shiv Talwar and participating in the free class he so passionately shared at the library enhanced the quality of my life and continues to enrich the experience.  The guided deep breathing app developed by Shiv Talwar is free to use online and makes it easier to incorporate the practice by following along with specific number of breaths per minute.  We normally breathe at the rate of 15-20 breaths per minute - learning that with conscious breath work we get more oxygen and benefit from 3 breaths per minute than 15, for instance, was a game-changer for me on how I approach and appreciate deep breathing.

I feel a deep sense of calm and my mind is stilled when I take a few minutes out of my day to treat myself with a deep breathing session.  Life is precious from our first breath to last and I want to continue this practice to the end.”
